.Is being Content OK?.

This has been mentioned to be several times over the past few months… we need to be CONTENT exactly where the Lord has us today!

My insides always CRING at the word?  WHY, Lord? WHY?

I was praying as I was falling asleep last night, something I used to struggle to do, but praise God for even this small work in my life…. and I realized something.

EVERYTHING.in.this.world.screams.DO.

NOT.be.content.

Buy bigger…., have more……, do more….., watch more……

It’s almost as if I think that they are saying being content and being lazy are the same thing. Have you ever thought that? Well…THEY ARE NOT!

Just for fun, let’s look at the dictionary.com definitions:

con·tent

1. satisfied with what one is or has; not wanting more or anything else.

2. British . agreeing; assenting.

3.Archaic . willing.

4. to make content: These things content me.

5. the state or feeling of being contented; contentment: His content was threatened.

6.(in the British house of Lords) an affirmative vote or voter.

la·zy

1.averse or disinclined to work, activity, or exertion; indolent.

2.causing idleness or indolence: a hot, lazy afternoon.

3.slow-moving; sluggish: a lazy stream.

4.(of a livestock brand) placed on its side instead of upright.

More importantly – what does God say?

Content:

*Proverbs 19:23
The fear of the LORD leads to life; then one rests content, untouched by trouble.

*Job 36:11
If they obey and serve him, they will spend the rest of their days in prosperity and their years in contentment.

*Psalm 131:2
But I have calmed and quieted myself, I am like a weaned child with its mother; like a weaned child I am content.

Lazy:

*Proverbs 10:4
Lazy hands make for poverty, but diligent hands bring wealth.

*Proverbs 10:3-5 (in Context) Proverbs 10 (Whole Chapter)

*Proverbs 12:27
The lazy do not roast any game, but the diligent feed on the riches of the hunt.
Proverbs 12:26-28 (in Context) Proverbs 12 (Whole Chapter)

*Proverbs 26:15
A sluggard buries his hand in the dish; he is too lazy to bring it back to his mouth.

Besides those, there are many other scriptures that talk about being content or finding our contentment in Him.  Look it up! Search it out!  It’s good stuff!

Will you join me in praying for the heart to be  FULLY content in Christ, who died for you… HE is enough and nothing this world has to offer can ever compare to Him!

Love,

H

  1. this is so good. the world tells us to always have and do more!! this is something andrew and i really guard strongly (starting with not even having a TV) and it is HARD!!!
i try to look at what paul says in 2Corninthians 12 and Philippeans 4. Paul is content in EVERY situation..even persucution and with nothing. Also in the fact that he is longing to go and visit his church..but is in prison.
i always want to be somewhere else, and once i get there, i want to be SOMEWHERE ELSE. yikes.
thanks heidi for pointing this out, you are not alone in your stuggles.
